Dr. Hussain received his Ph.D. in Information Engineering, specializing in Automatic Control and Robotics, from the University of Siena, Italy. Prior to joining Khalifa University, he held research positions in Italy, South Korea, and the UAE, building extensive expertise in robotics, control systems, mechatronics, soft robotics, wearable haptics, and compliant robotic systems.

He has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals and conferences, including IEEE Transactions on Robotics, The International Journal of Robotics Research, Information Fusion, IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters, Journal of Field Robotics, and Automatica. His research has attracted thousands of citations and contributed significantly to advancing robotics and autonomous systems. He is also an inventor of multiple U.S. patents, with several technologies progressing toward commercialization.

At Khalifa University, Dr. Hussain leads an internationally recognized research program that has developed innovative robotic technologies, including supernumerary robotic limbs for human augmentation and rehabilitation, compliant exoskeletons, variable-stiffness actuators, tactile sensing systems, autonomous marine robots, and AI-enabled agricultural robots. His work has fostered international collaborations, industry partnerships, advanced laboratory infrastructure, and the training of highly skilled researchers and engineers.

Dr. Hussain actively contributes to the global robotics community through editorial and leadership roles. He has served as Associate Editor for IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA), Associate Editor for the Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, Guest Editor for Sensors, and Research Topic Editor for Frontiers in Robotics and AI and Frontiers in Neurorobotics.

His research has received numerous national and international recognitions, including the Khalifa University Research Publication Award, IEEE Haptics Symposium Best Demonstration Award, IEEE ICORR Best Student Paper Finalist recognition, and success at MBZIRC 2024. His work has been featured by CNN, The National, Abu Dhabi Media Office, Wired Middle East, Aspire, and other international media outlets.

Through interdisciplinary research, innovation, mentorship, and collaboration, Dr. Hussain advances next-generation robotic technologies that address critical challenges in healthcare, marine sustainability, food security, and intelligent autonomous systems.
