Research overview
One of Dr. Hussain's most significant institutional leadership achievements has been establishing marine robotics as a strategic research theme within KUCARS.
This program addresses autonomous surface vehicles, underwater robotics, maritime perception, multi-robot systems, maritime intervention, GNSS-denied navigation, and environmental monitoring.
The program required research vision, funding acquisition, infrastructure development, student recruitment, and international collaboration. It also produced marine robotics laboratories and marine pool infrastructure for prototype validation and student training.
As Team Leader for MBZIRC 2024, Dr. Hussain led a multidisciplinary international team that competed against 52 teams from 25 countries and achieved third place globally through UAV-USV cooperation, maritime manipulation, perception, navigation, and system integration.
